What is a Product Carbon Footprint?

A Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) measures the total greenhouse gas emissions associated with the production of a specific product or service. It can cover all stages of a product’s lifecycle, from raw material extraction to manufacturing, distribution, use, and disposal. With Secaro, you can build cradle-to-gate PCFs.

Why build Product Carbon Footprints?

Building a Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) offers a more in-depth approach to emissions reduction by enabling users to analyze the carbon footprint of their products, with a focus on Scope 3 emissions. This helps organizations identify emissions hotspots and high carbon products and product categories.

What is the scope of the PCF?

The PCF builder is designed to generate cradle-to-gate PCFs. This scope assesses the environmental impact of a product, from raw material extraction (‘cradle’) to the point where the product leaves the manufacturing facility (‘gate’) or reaches the retailer ('retail gate'). It includes all processes involved in manufacturing up to this point, such as material extraction, pre-processing, and transportation.

How is data managed on the platform?

Secaro maintains administrative, physical, and technical safeguards to protect the security, confidentiality and integrity of customer data as required by law. These safeguards include encryption of data in transmission (using SSL or similar technologies). Secaro is ISO 27001 certified with an Information Security Management System (ISMS) aligned to ISO 27001 in place and are compliant to General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Secaro’s commitment to GDPR and CCPA principles are reflected throughout the Privacy Policy.

Commercial data is not shared with any other party, e.g., only suppliers apportioned environmental savings data is shared with its customers. Any financial savings made by implementing efficiency measures are not shared with any organization other than the supplier company itself.
